Notes from Underground: On the Role of Governance in Natural Resource Management

Join us for the Woods Environmental Forum with Bill Blomquist on November 10 at 3:30 p.m.

Sustainable management of natural resources requires arrangements for decision making, the development and use of information, and the mobilization and coordination of effort. These facts have led to increased attention to the importance of governance in natural resource management. But what does governance mean, what does it look like and how does it relate to sustainability? Governance arrangements for the management of groundwater basins in California provide examples from which to discuss these and other questions about the significance and challenges of managing resources under stress.

Bill Blomquist is the Landreth Visiting Fellow, Water in the West; Professor of Political Science and Adjunct Professor of Public and Environmental Affairs, Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis.

A reception to immediately follow.
