Water Law and the Drought

How did laws and regulations designed to protect California’s aquatic environment perform during the most recent drought? Seeking to answer this question, Leon Szeptycki, Director of Stanford’s Water in the West program, and Brian Gray, professor emeritus at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law and senior fellow at the Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC), worked with a team of law students at Stanford to investigate case studies involving water rights, water management, and regulations in different watersheds around the state.  

The team, including students John Ugai, Philip Womble, and Elizabeth Vissers, discovered major lessons on water law and water challenges as detailed in a new PPIC Viewpoint. 

Their work was published in the West Northwest Journal of Environmental Law and Policy.
